Their eyes shine in the moon’s light as they fight. Their movements are fluid, smooth, and predatory. Lean, taunt muscles lay beneath different colors of fur and sharp incisors are visible beneath black gums. Blood spatters over their beautiful coats and color the ground red as they snap, tear, and wound each other.

Fur standing on end, you approach the two groups as they pause and separate as they take notice of your presence. Two pairs of eyes stand out to you and unnerve you. Both seemed to draw the respect out of you without your consent as you lower your head and tuck your tail between your legs. Power radiated from them both, and you’re unsure whether it was the large, dark grey male with golden eyes, or the black female with bright green eyes that had the strongest air to them. They both stood across from each other, and large groups of other wolves and Werelings in human forms stand on each side behind them. All of their eyes bore into you and you stop as you stand before the two obvious leaders.

Your muscles tense and they begin to shake as your wolf side slowly draws you towards one side, your true nature, good or evil, slowly reveals itself as you make your decision. Which side will you choose? Will you choose the path of light and good? Or the path of dark and evil?

Venantium or Eternals?

Raised by his human mother, Finnick always had stood out from his peers.  He was stronger, faster, had sharper senses and always healed exceedingly quickly.  Of course, he was simply under the impression that he was exceptionally physically gifted and that story seemed to fly with the few childhood friends that he managed to keep.  Living on the coast, he spent as much time as he could in the ocean.  Even as a baby, his mother told him, he was always intensely interested in the water and wanted to be in it.  There was just something about the way it moved and the way that it felt, to say nothing of its intense, overwhelming power, which fascinated young Finnick.

On the eve of his fourteenth birthday, though, his happy little world came crashing down.  His mother explained to him the truth behind why he was so much faster and stronger and resilient than anyone else.  She explained why his father had left before he had been born.  She explained what was going to happen to him the following night.  She explained, with tears in her eyes, why he had to leave his home and never return.  It was too big of a risk, she said.  Someone could find out what he was and capture or kill him or he might lose control of himself and be unable to stop himself from killing.  After he packed up a backpack with one or two personal effects and a handful of clothes, he set off to start his new life.

Of course, in order to reach that new life, he had to manage to survive his birthday.  He found a small, sea-side cave that was mostly above water, even when the tide was in, and so made himself comfortable there and hunkered down in the damp sand to wait for the night.  As the light at the mouth of the cave faded, Finnick could feel something inside of himself, almost like there was something writhing beneath his skin, twisting and contorting his body to its own whims.  Unfortunately for the boy, the moon passing overhead was completely full.  About halfway through the physical shift, Finnick’s awareness retreated deep into his mind, making way for the strong, famished entity that had been lying in wait for this night.

The next morning, Finnick awoke inside his little cave.  He felt fine.  Truth be told, he felt magnificent.  His body was filled with a fervor and strength that he had never known before.  However, when he opened his eyes, his very breath was stolen away.  Scattered around the cave were a handful of body parts, savagely ripped from whatever body had once hosted them.  There was no hint of the bodies among the blood-soaked sand, aside from the severed fingers, feet, and hands that lay nearby.

After completely emptying his stomach, he made full use of his natural speed and endurance to put many, many miles between himself and the grizzly scene of his first nocturnal meal.  Throughout the years, Finnick has come to accept his other half as they traveled, finding that it was much easier to survive if he embraced what he was, rather than fight against it.  His affinity for the water has not lessened throughout the years, and has often been employed in his survival strategies and hunting methods.  His physical prowess, heightened as it is by his other half, as well as his looks, which his mother assured him came from his father, has engendered something of a haughty ego in the man, especially where any mortals are concerned.
