Their eyes shine in the moon’s light as they fight. Their movements are fluid, smooth, and predatory. Lean, taunt muscles lay beneath different colors of fur and sharp incisors are visible beneath black gums. Blood spatters over their beautiful coats and color the ground red as they snap, tear, and wound each other.

Fur standing on end, you approach the two groups as they pause and separate as they take notice of your presence. Two pairs of eyes stand out to you and unnerve you. Both seemed to draw the respect out of you without your consent as you lower your head and tuck your tail between your legs. Power radiated from them both, and you’re unsure whether it was the large, dark grey male with golden eyes, or the black female with bright green eyes that had the strongest air to them. They both stood across from each other, and large groups of other wolves and Werelings in human forms stand on each side behind them. All of their eyes bore into you and you stop as you stand before the two obvious leaders.

Your muscles tense and they begin to shake as your wolf side slowly draws you towards one side, your true nature, good or evil, slowly reveals itself as you make your decision. Which side will you choose? Will you choose the path of light and good? Or the path of dark and evil?

Venantium or Eternals?

'Dancing in the dark under pale moonlight, high heels off; I'm feeling alive.'

Once they made it through Bluebell Meadow, they stood there staring at the Crimson Forest. Well it did live up to its name rather well, red floor with dark eerie looking trees. Still in the late night it was beautiful and Sanaa couldn't wait.

Turning to Ryker she smiled and stepped out of her white heels and just like that Sanaa took off in a jog. Moving slow at first she entered into the forest, her hazel eyes glancing back Ryker's way.'Your turn..' she said to Nyre.'Finally!'

In an instant Nyre busted free, the image of Sanaa was gone and in her place stood a lovely she wolf.  Light eyes flickered as she glanced back at Ryker and took off into the forest. She moved at a nice pace, enjoying the soft breeze that carried her thick multicolored fur. Finally she was free, free to enjoy the time Sanaa had given her.

Hopping over a fallen tree Nyree leaned down to sniff the floor, snorting softly she looked over her shoulder. No sign of him yet. Perking her ears forward she continued on, her gait slowing so he could catch up if he wanted. Unless he had plans to creep up on her. She wondered what his wolf would look like, smirking she kept moving.

It had been quite some time since Ryker had been in this part of the city’s area. The heady scent of Bluebells brought back a handful of memories, but he and Dante both instantly pushed those aside. That was the past and was completely unhelpful to be thinking of at the moment. He was about to say something to Sanaa, but never got the chance as she shifted and took off into the forest. For being mature, she certainly was impulsive.

Ryker allowed his own form to shift, shaking out his brown and black peppered fur. It had been quite some time since he had shifted forms simply to run. He enjoyed it nearly as much as Dante, who was itching to burst into a sprint into the forest. Ryker agreed and they set off, following after Sanaa’s scent and quite soon finding her, loping along at an easy trot. “Enjoying the forest?” they asked, coming up to pace the female. To be honest, Ryker had not spent much time in this section of the forest, save for his infuriated flight from the Braveheart packlands so recently, but he had hardly been paying attention to his surroundings that time.

The change into her wolf form eased Sanaa's mind, Nyre had grown restless inside. Itching to spring free at the wrong moments, she knew putting off time to run with her would do that. But trotting along beside Ryker under the tree tops of the Crimson Forest, it was nice. She forgot how alive she felt when she was immersed into mother nature changed, the sights and smells everything doubled once she left human form. It made her appreciate who was she was a bit more. "This place is eerie and captivating all at once, nothing like running under the moonlight. So tell me why you chose the Eternal Darkness pack?" she asked curiously.

Keeping a steady pace beside Ryker she nudged into his shoulder with a smirk, her thick brown pelt meshing with his. Lifting her muzzle she sniffed the air, his scent was swirling around her and off in the distant she could smell the sweet bluebells.Stepping to the right Nyre avoided a large tree,it was the invisible boundary marker to the darker part of the forest. As they walked further the moons light illuminated her fur no longer the tree tops were growing thicker. Hazel gaze flickered up to his and she picked up the pace, her quick steps were graceful and precise. " Do you know if our packs hate each other? Would I ever have to cross paths with you in different circumstances? Like a fight? " she asked wondering the history of the pack she chose. Everything was still new to her.

Shifting forms was always something of a rush. Senses sharpened, physical prowess heightened, it did tend to change the way that they saw the world. However, due to the extremely high degree of bonding that Ryker and Dante shared, there was not that euphoric sense of relief that many werelings felt when they shifted. Running on four feet instead of two was simply a different state of being for the paired minds. As such, Ryker had little trouble in simply trotting alongside Sanaa, listening to her. The question of why he had chosen Eternal Darkness, though, forced him to think. What could he tell her about his decision? She was a member of Venantium, after all.

I did a bit of research before I came to the states. My family is pretty well connected, so it wasn’t too hard to track down the dominant pack in the area that I was going. Besides, Eternal Darkness, and Alphess Noctavia in particular, seemed to suit my designs better than any member of the Braveheart pack, so I made the obvious decision,” he said, his voice and posture communicating that there was no other logical choice. He trotted alongside her as they moved deeper into the forest, relishing the shadows that draped over them from the trees. It was a very comforting feeling, knowing that there was absolutely nothing that could be capable of sneaking up in this darkness. Being the apex predator and having the advantage of sight being next to useless was exhilarating, to say the least.

Sanaa’s question about their packs hating each other brought a short chuckle from Ryker’s throat. “These two packs don’t hate each other, no. That’s not to say that there’s no possibility of us winding up on opposite sides of a battle line, of course, but I don’t think there’s any imminent danger of it happening. As near as I can tell, Noctavia is content with just letting Venantium do its own thing, for now.” He wondered where that question had come from. Perhaps some insecurity from her past. That would be an interesting secret to delve into, though likely at a later time.

His responses made her feel better, she really had no idea what she was getting into. Just that giving your loyalty to a pack meant fulfilling your duty. Whatever it may be, it was ironic though that years later she would give her help to this pack in anyway possible. But I guess they didn't ask for as much as her family had so long ago. Lost in her thoughts she grew quiet for a moment, her hazel eyes looking away from Ryker to the darkness.

"I'm glad because I would hate to see anything happen to you and then I wouldn't be able to help. " she stated in a soft tone. Her heart was huge and the care she shared for the people she got to know was obvious. That was why she wanted to be a healer, so she could do some good in her life.

Turning back to Ryker she shook the thoughts from her mind and smiled, he wasn't so bad. Leaning into his shoulder once more she bumped him with her rump. She snickered softly and took off in a run, deeper into the forest. "Come on big boy, I thought we were going for a run!" she teased. She cut through the trees and hopped over logs, weaving quickly about enjoying the darkness. Sliding to a stop Sanaa looked over her shoulder for Ryker, her hazel eyes flickering and glowing as she watched the darkness quietly.

Ah, but there was nothing quite like the mindset of a true healer. Her given reasons for not wanting to be in a fight against Eternal Darkness were suitable, but felt somewhat shallow to the Beta, as though she were hiding what she really thought. He did not presume to imagine anything beyond what she said, but it was an interesting feeling, nonetheless. “Wars do have a way of separating people,” he agreed.

Her playful bump hardly even caused him to shift his weight, so he simply watched as she disappeared into the inky shadows of the forest. “Mind the trees!” he called out after her, thoroughly amused. After a moment, he took a breath and exploded into motion, easily following her scent trail. As he ran, his massive body weaved through and over tree trunks and bushes as though it weighed nothing at all. He had learned to be very light on his feet, or paws, when he needed to be. He caught sight of her body, stopped running, and coiled his muscles before leaping clear over her. “I thought we were going for a run!” he called over his shoulder, not slowing his sprint into the forest in the least. Could she follow him? He doubted that she could catch him, given his training and not quite so massive body as several males he could name, as well as his simple joy of running. But could she at least follow correctly? Would she?

Her ears perked forward as she heard a rustle behind her, quickly lowering her body she saw him. Flying overhead in a huge leap that cleared her, she watched him run by. Shaking her head at his comment she ran after him. Hazel eyes narrowing as she dipped under branches and hopped over trees, attempting to keep his pace. Her paws thumped along as she ran, not attempting to be quiet or graceful.

Giving a soft growl Nyre took a leap forward and slid through the fallen leaves, she knew she wasn't faster then Ryker. But she was right behind his tail, pushing herself harder she took bigger steps. The lean muscles under her pelt rippled as she stayed close to him. He towered over her in size, but that didn't mean she wasn't quick enough. Enjoying the breeze through her fur she followed close by, debating whether or not she should cheat to get in the lead.

"What's in the middle of this forest!?" Sanaa called out only a few steps behind Ryker. His fluffy tail was flapping about in her face and she grinned. Ears perking forward she leaned her muzzle out and chomped down on his tail. It wasn't to hard, but it wasn't to soft either. Enough to make him look back, she figured.

Ears swiveled back caught the sounds of close pursuit and Ryker grinned.  Keeping up with his speed was no easy feat, yet Sanaa was performing admirably.  No doubt her smaller size gave her an advantage over him in maneuvering through the denser sections of the forest, but Ryker’s longer legs and superior mass were also beneficial while he was coordinated enough to stay light and zig zag through the columns of trees.

He heard Sanaa’s question and had to admit that he did not know the answer.  “No idea,” he called over his shoulder.  “Never had much of a reason to find out.”  He dropped his right shoulder, weaving tightly to the right and flashing past a tree trunk by a hair’s breadth.  Once he got back on his line through the forest, he could hear Sanaa still close behind him.  A sharp pain suddenly drew his attention to his tail and it took every ounce of control that Ryker could muster at a moment’s notice to keep Dante from spinning around, snarling and ready for a fight.  That split second of distraction cost him, though, and his left forepaw caught on a root and sent him tumbling and bouncing along the forest floor for a good ten feet.

Slowly pulling himself up into a sitting position, he shook his head, trying to clear out the haze.  “Ouch,” he said slowly.  He took a few deep breaths, making sure that nothing was broken, save his pride, and then turned his black eyes towards Sanaa, assuming she hadn’t taken off into the forest.  His ears were flat, but not pinned back, and his eyes were slightly narrowed.  Along with the slightly lopsided frown across his muzzle, his expression quite clearly said, “Really?”

Sanaa wondered what the middle of the forest looked like, curious what these dark trees kept hidden in secret. She didn't think about it to long because before she knew it Ryker was tumbling across the mossy red earth. Her hazel eyes got wide and she let out a small laugh before gasping. Man could he roll, he must've tumbled fifteen feet.

Chasing after him she couldn't help but hold a mischievous smirk across her muzzle as he glared her way. Lowering her ears she took a few steps closer and looked up his way, her shoulder nudging his. "I want you to know I feel bad about that.." she teased stepping away quickly. Her ears perked forward and she put on a serious face,"No really, its not in me to cheat at running..." she added with a smile.

Stepping past Ryker she flicked her tail past his nose, teasing him before she sprinted away. Looking over her shoulder her hazel eyes glowed, Just think If I would've tackled you instead, we'd both be on the ground!" she yelled out. Realizing that she might've poked the bear with that comment. Enjoying the soft feel of mud beneath her paws Sanaa picked up her gait, taking bigger steps trying to clear more ground. She wanted to make it to the middle of the forest before Ryker tried to use her as a chew toy for revenge.

Climbing back to his feet, Ryker shook his body, dislodging leaves and twigs that had been caught up in his fur.  Her apology was…slightly less than awe inspiring.  “Uh huh,” he said, watching her grinning like a fox in the hen house.  “So I guess it was an accident that your teeth just happened to clamp down on my tail, then.  Right, that makes sense.”  He nodded skeptically.

He avoided her coquettish flick of her tail with a little tilt of his head while his golden eyes followed her as she dashed off into the woods.  He chose to ignore her comment, rather opting to chase after her in silence and stay focused on slipping his body through the gaps in the tree trunks.  Also minding his paws.  Again, he followed her scent through the trees, dodging and weaving as he did.  It was an interesting exercise, especially with her running full tilt that way.  Slowly, he gained ground on her, but slowed just slightly a few feet behind her so that he simply paced her.  Who knew what she would do the next time he was running within range of physical contact.

Sanaa's ears perked as Ryker caught up near by and her eyes shifted to look at him, she watched him back off to keep distance. Smirking she shook her head and continued to run, weaving past the trees and under the branches. She moved swiftly through the forest, but slid to a stop as they approached the middle of the forest.

Dark tall trees grew outward in a uneven circle, stepping past them Sanaa looked to Ryker. "Look at this place..." she whispered. Her thick tail swayed behind her body as she hopped onto the fluffy red moss patch, it resembled a big pillow. Mother nature at its finest, giving the wolves a place to take a break. Stepping lighting she reclined to her haunches in the moss, a chill slipping up her spine.

It was dark and Ryker's fur blended in well, her eyes glowed faintly. Ears perked she tilted her head his way.  "Tell me Ryker of a day that changed your life forever?" she asked softly. She had lots of questions to ask him, figured while taking a break was better then ever.

Ryker slowed to a stop once they had breached what seemed to be the center of the forest. It really was strikingly beautiful. One of those rare moments when Ryker really and truly appreciated nature. “It is very lovely,” he replied quietly, as though speaking too loudly would shatter the illusion of tranquility and awe that seemed to hang over the small clearing.

Her question elicited a small chuckle. That was certainly an interesting thing to ask about. “I assume you’re after something more interesting than the first time that I shifted, aye?” He thought back through his life, about what he could tell her and what would remain a secret forever. There were so many extraordinary events in his life, in the life of any wereling, really, that it was difficult to pinpoint one in particular that had been more significant than the others. Although, there was one event that he could remember had changed his whole outlook on life.

Well, a long time ago, back when I was still in training in my family’s castle in Ireland, I was under the opinion that a wereling had to be stronger than his rivals in order to get anything in life. In my defense, as I now realize how naïve and narrow minded that is, this was what I had always been taught. Well, I was watching my uncle fight off a couple servants that he often fought with. He was an uncle on my mother’s side, so built much like me and not very muscular. I watched him almost dance around his three opponents, twisting their own attacks against themselves and each other. That was when I realized that, if someone was smart enough and fast enough, it didn’t matter how strong his opponent was. From that day on, I adopted the phrase, ‘A bheith cliste roimh láidir’, be clever before strong, as kind of a personal motto and it has shaped every action of mine since that day.

He fell silent, his mind spinning back through the misty memories of the past. After a moment, his golden eyes turned and focused on Sanaa’s reclining form and a small smile pulled at his lips. “Alright, now it’s your turn.

"That's a good story and an even better motto to live by." she said softly with a smile. When he mentioned her turn she looked his way and sighed, ears falling back as she thought. Closing her eyes she tried to think of a important moment from her past. One that changed her forever, there was one that stood out the most.

" It was early one morning and my mother was crushing mint leaves with a mortar and pestle, she always said it was the best remedy for anxiety. Stomach aches and nausea, it still is one of the few things I grow year long. The scent reminds me of her, she was one hell of a healer. She was an amazing woman too, saved my father from death. Found him laying on a bank near the Nile, starved and sick. Nursed him well and he turned out to be strong and fearless, complete Alpha material. Many say she bestowed that upon him because he wasn't that great in the beginning of his life. But there story is for another day.

One of the biggest battles took place that day, by noon the savannah was covered in blood. But we had won, defeated our enemy and claimed a home. The other pack scattered about the savannah and ran for their lives. That was the first time I had seen so much blood and actually heard the screams of pain. But it was also the first and last time I got to see my mother in healing action. She had a gift tending to everyone and they all looked so grateful. After healing many of our warriors, my mother took me to the river. That's where we saw him, the Alpha from the other pack. He was hurt badly and from the look in my mother's eyes I think she knew him. The only thing that would save him was blood, he couldn't regenerate. He was going to die.."
she said in a soft tone. Her eyes looked down at her paws as she swallowed hard.

"My mother made me step back and warned me to run. When she kneeled down to help him, he attacked her. Ripped out her throat without a second guess and ended her life, she bled out slowly. I laid there with her until my dad and brother showed up. He was so hurt, everything that started for him at that river so many years before. Ended that day when she died. My big brother scooped me up and took me home. He had promised me that he'd always have my back and that family sticks together." she said in a cold tone. Looking away at the darkness she shook her muzzle and smiled weakly.

"I learned that day I wanted to heal and be great like my mom. Even if it meant leaving my family behind to achieve that, I felt like it needed to be done." she spoke. It was like she tried to justify her actions, looking to Ryker she sighed. "What was it like when you shifted for the first time? Were you nervous?"

Ryker sat himself on the ground as he listened to Sanaa’s story.  It was interesting, extremely different from his own life experiences.  The fact that she had been inspired at a young age to heal, while he had been conditioned to lead, was a fascinating juxtaposition.  It sounded as though her entire history had been rife with conflict, be it between neighboring tribes, or even within her own family.  The frosty edge to her voice at the comment about family had Ryker grinning, knowing exactly how tenuous the bonds of “family” really were.  From her tone, Sanaa was even more familiar with that concept than he was.

When she finished, he shook his head slightly.  “That is quite the story, Doctor Luthern,” he said, emphasizing her title just slightly.  “And quite an admirable history, too.”  He gazed up at the thick, black canopy obscuring any light from the heavens as he considered the answer to her question.

My first time shifting,” he began, chuckling quietly at the memory.  “Was not quite as tumultuous as most wereling’s first changes.  I had been trained and taught what I was and what I was to expect from a very early age, so I was pretty well prepared for it.  Even so, I was locked in a room that my family had built specifically for werelings going through their first changes.  The door only opened from the outside and the walls were seamless granite slabs.  My brother volunteered to go with me, to try and help keep me calm.  I think it worked a little bit, although he still has an impressive set of scars across his chest.  I wouldn’t say that I was so much nervous, though.  Terrified, certainly, but more excited.  It was the night that I was going to truly become a part of my family.  What about your first time walking in wolf’s clothing?” he asked.  It was interesting to sit in such a secluded area and just chat with a member of a foreign pack like this.  He felt strangely at ease here, talking to Sanaa about their respective histories.  How very peculiar.

Sanaa looked to him and nodded, it was something she dealt with for a long time. Though the thought of ever seeing her family again, pulled at her heart strings. She noticed him staring at the sky and she looked up, darkness. Ears perking forward she smiled at his story, enjoying it.

"That sounds like a interesting memory for your brother. At least it make you chuckle now." she said softly. "Well mine is kind of like yours except I broke free from arm and ankle shackles. Plus I punched through a wall.." she added blinking a few times.

Giving her thick pelt a shake she shivered from the drop in temperature, "In the savannah its hot and heavy. I ran for miles and saw nothing, my mom followed close behind and eventually they wrestled me down. It was a proud moment though, I was stronger then she expected. My father was even more excited then I was the Alpha's daughter strong? I had potential to lead in his eyes." she confessed with a smirk.

Her hazel eyes flickered with appreciation, "Well Ryker tonight was interesting, we should start walking back though. It was a pleasure getting to know you, maybe I'll run into you in the Neutral area more often? Friends?" she commented giving him a nudge.

Ryker laughed again at her comment about him finding the memory humorous. “Aye, but I doubt that he’d find it quite so amusing as I do. You broke out of arm and leg bindings? That’s impressive. And it sounds like you’re quite quick on your paws. Did your father want you to take up the mantle of alphess?” he asked, curious.

He did agree with her, though. It was getting to be quite late, or early, depending on how one looked at it, and there were things that needed doing today. Even werewolves needed to sleep occasionally. Standing up and shaking a few leaves from his fur, Ryker dipped his head to the doctor, his tail giving a small wag. “Indeed it was, both an interesting night and a pleasure to make your acquaintance. Aye, friends,” he agreed. Not knowing how used to following her nose she was, Ryker turned back the way they had come, able to follow their scents through the damp air. “Just let me know if you feel like running into each other at the Griffon again.

Sanaa had slowed to an easy trot as they made their way back through the Crimson Forest. Her paws pounded the ground lightly as she moved beside Ryker. Shaking her head she frowned, "I have two older brothers Shemar and Cyress. I wasn't entitled to the pack in my father's eyes. I was going to be his pawn in a game to control another pack and take their land. I'm sure you can guess who's son I was betrothed to..the killer who took my mother. I guess after that I couldn't look at my father the same way. He gave me some bullshit story about doing whats best for the pack, but I refused to bond with any of their blood lines." she said softly. The thought of it all made the fur on her neck raise and she snorted. Somehow expanding his land and territory was more important then the well being of his kin.

"At that moment in my life I had a choice and I guess I took the easy way out. Running. Our treaty was broken because apparently his first daughter was promised to them years ago. My big brother Cyress runs the pack now and Shemar, hes a loner. Exiled like me from our home, but it was all my fault. I ruined his life and I don't think he will ever forgive me." she said simply. "Last time he caught up with me..he tossed me off a roof, I think he knew the fall wouldn't kill me. But that hurt...bad. Siblings, am I right?"

Staying quiet she smiled at Ryker's comment and nodded, "Friends, sounds good. I love classical music, wine and good conversation. I wish you the best over in your pack Beta Ryker." The walk back was a good while and she figured they would get in a bit more conversation before the sun came up.
